Oakland Athletics likely to move to Las Vegas, as MLB commissioner says he passed away last in attendance

According to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, it is a safe bet that the Oakland Athletic baseball team will leave the city for Las Vegas.

Manfred said in an interview Friday with Sirius XM that he is no longer optimistic that A’s will stay in Auckland.

“It doesn’t look like it’s going to happen,” Manfred said.

Athletics’ lease at the 56-year-old Oakland Coliseum expires after the 2024 season.

In 2019 commissioners tentatively agreed to give the team four years to complete an environmental impact report for the 50-acre site.

Until then, the A’s still have a long way to go before they can get their playground, including negotiating a lease or sale of the land and getting city and state council approval.

The current Oakland Coliseum is more than 50 years old, and the MLB has said that rebuilding on the current site is not a viable option.

“I know the effort is being made to make that happen here, I’ve seen it myself,” Bean said.

In May 2021, Major League Baseball instructed the Oakland elite to explore transfer options if a football stadium deal could not be reached and team boss Dave Caval said the club was working on plans along ‘parallel tracks’ in Oakland and Las Vegas.
