MLB 2022-23 Important Off Season Dates

The World Championship The off-season has officially ended. Here’s a look at some of the important dates to watch over the next several months. It’s worth noting that the new CBA hasn’t been officially released, so some of the dates below are guesses based on previous seasons. We will update this article when the dates become official.

November 6 – Free agents file (a day after the World Championships ends)

Eligible players will apply for free agency the day after the World Championships ends. This will also start the five-day lull in which teams can negotiate with their free agents, but are unable to sign with anyone. Teams must also decide whether to extend eligible offers for one year worth $19.65 million to any of their free agents. To be eligible for a qualification offer, a player must have spent the entire 2022 season with his team and had not previously received a qualifying offer.

The Braves team currently has eight players set to apply for free agency: Jesse Chavez, Darren O’Day, Luke Jackson, Kenley Jansen, Ihir Adrianza, Dansby Swanson, Adam Duvall and Robbie Grossman. Of this group, only Swanson will receive a qualifying bid. If Swanson receives a qualifying bid and signs elsewhere, the Braves will receive compensation after round B, that is, before the third round. Any player who receives a qualifying offer will have 10 days to accept or decline the offer; Players who receive such offers Not Prevent them from negotiating with other teams or signing deals during this window.

November 7 – Finalists for the BBWAA Awards

Options deadline – (five days after the World Championships ends)

The Braves only have one player who has a choice in his current deal. Jake Odorizzi will decide whether to choose to sign up for a $12.5 million deal for the 2023 season or buy out $6.25 million and enter the free agent market.

Return of the injured list – (five days after the end of the World Championships)

Players who are currently on the 60-day infected list must be reinstated to the 40-player list five days after the end of the World Championships. Atlanta ended the 2022 season with five players on their 60-day injured list, but three of them are free agents. Thus, only Huascar Ynoa and Manny Pina will need to be added again to the list of 40 players.

November 8-10 – GM Meetings in Las Vegas

These are not the winter meetings, but the annual meeting of general managers that will be held this year in Las Vegas, Nevada. These meetings usually focus on matters off the field, and the state of the game, but sometimes future business discussions begin here.

Thursday 10 November – Silver Slugger Awards Announced

The winners of the 2022 Silver Slugger Awards will be revealed on MLB Network at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, November 10. Atlanta currently has five finalists In Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Dansby Swanson, Michael Harris, and Travis D’Arno.

November 14-17 – BBWAA Award Winners Announced

November 17 – Deadline for Qualification Offer

As noted above, this is the end of the window in which players receiving eligible offers have to make a decision. They can accept, decline, or sign a deal anywhere else at any time during this window, but any player who does not accept by this date will be deemed to have rejected it and is therefore eligible for draft pick compensation if they change teams.

November 18 – Rule 5 Deadline

This is the deadline for adding players to the list of 40 to protect them from the draft rule 5. Braves You will make some interesting decisions With players like Darius Vines, Braden Shewmake, Roddery Munoz and Victor Vodnik all in the qualifying pool.

December 2 – Deadline for No Bidding

This is the deadline for teams to submit a contract to players eligible for pre-arbitration and arbitration for 2023. December 4-7 – Winter Meetings in San Diego

Winter Baseball Meetings will be held in San Diego, California. These meetings are usually the busiest weeks of the off-season for both teams and players.

December 7 – Rule 5 Draft

Minor League players who are not on the team’s 40-player roster who have been in professional baseball for four (for college players) or five (for high school players) are eligible for selection in Draft Rule 5. During the Major League portion of the draft, any player who is He is selected in the active roster for that team throughout the season or is sent back to his home club.

January 13 – exchange of arbitration numbers

Players eligible to referee and their clubs officially exchange potential salary figures. The Braves currently have six players eligible to arbitrate salary (assuming no bids) Atlanta may choose to avoid arbitration with many of these players to enter into one-year contracts that both sides agree to, or long-term extensions. January 15 – Opening of the international signature period

The 2023 international signature period will open on January 15. This will be Braves’ second signing period not subject to sanctions after the scandal that occurred under former GM John Coppolella.

Mid-January – Hall of Fame voting results

The 2023 Hall of Fame category will be announced sometime in mid-January. Former Braves player Andrew Jones will be part of the ballot to be released in mid-November.

Late January – Mid February – Arbitration Hearings

If teams and players eligible to arbitrate cannot reach an agreement, they will go to an arbitration session where the player’s salary is determined by a panel.
