Harry Styles duet with Shania Twain, releases new songs at Coachella

Harry Styles kicked off his top ensemble at Coachella Friday night with a simple salutation. “Good evening. My name is Harry.”

We know that the masses should think in unison. After all, there were tens of thousands gathered at the polo field in Indio, California to pick up his collection, many of them watching the live stream on YouTube.

“It’s big here, isn’t it?” Patterns cracked, before explaining how it would go. “For the next 80 minutes or so, our job is to entertain you. I promise you we’ll absolutely do our best. You also have one job – to have fun as much as we can. I want you to be the person you’ve always wanted to be in the field tonight.”

For Styles, it meant a step back of sorts – to his younger days, before One Direction when he was singing Shania Twain songs in the car. And she was there, in the flesh, about an hour on his set, to sing in “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” Twain’s massive hit 1999.

“This lady taught me to sing,” Styles Twain said. “You also told me that men are rubbish.”

Twain said, “I’m a little surprised, what can I say? No, I really like you of course. I realize that when I was writing this song, I was just a little kid. It’s kind of dreamy and so surreal to be sitting here right now singing this song with you. I think I Only in love and this song is about love. So let’s just sing about love.”

The two then took to singing 1997’s “You’re Still the Only One”.

Earlier on the set, Styles released two new songs of his own: the recently released single “As It Was,” and a supposedly new tune called “Boyfriends,” where Styles noted: “Sweetheart? Who in the audience has never had a boyfriend?” To your friends everywhere, damn you.”

Styles pleaded with the crowd to “be kind please” at the track launch. The song based on the sound with many harmonies tells of what seems to be an on-off relationship again where, “You’re still opening the door.”

Later, Styles showed another unreleased track, “Late Night Talking”. Styles’ third studio album, “Harry’s House,” is scheduled to be released on May 20.

It all ties in nicely with Styles’ comment at the top of the set: “We have a full moon, you have a ticket and I have to play.”
